After a long time, Mohidhar could hear Swapan's song coming from afar and felt quite cheerful. As Swapan was coming nearer, Mohidhar could hear the words of the song more clearly. Oh, what a song had he created!
Amid laughter and tears, joy and sorrow
To stop singing no one will order
This Earth is the address
Of both arrival and departure.
So early he had told such a candid truth. For ages, millions of people are born on Earth and also die. Like the ever-flowing water of a river – happiness, sorrow, laughter and tears are gliding away continuously. There is never any exception to the rule because the Earth is perpetually experiencing the joy due to the birth and the grief due to the death of millions of creatures with boundless, indifferent endurance. Even after going through so much pain and suffering, Mother Earth has scattered her pleasant smile throughout the world among hills, rivers, waterfalls, oceans, forests, flowers and birds' songs. All the creatures begin and end their lives on the Earth, yet being the only bearer and conveyer of the whole process Mother Earth is fulfilling all her duties and responsibilities towards us with unlimited motherly love. Taking a lesson from her, we have to do our duty and our duty and responsibility should be able to love our Mother Earth.
Actually, Swapan was one of his favourite persons. As soon as Swapan called him from outside, Mohidhar very warmly invited him inside his room. He said, "Please come, why are you calling me standing outside?" Swapan touched his forehead with folded hands respectfully and answered, "No sir, you are such a busy person, I feel ashamed to disturb you."
"Oh no, what are you saying? I feel so happy when you come. You go to so many places, meet so many people. I can get a lot of information from you." "Yes sir, this time I have travelled to many places, created songs in the name of Mother Earth and sang to people. I also said to them -"
Mohidhar interrupted him and said, "What did you tell the people?"
"Sir, I told the men - do a lot of great work, be very wise and wealthy, But before that do a very easy task. When I shall tell you about it, you will find it to be the easiest task. You won't have to take any trouble for it, neither have to starve nor have to suffer from the scorching heat or bitter cold; anyone can do this work. The Earth - where we are born, in whose shelter from birth to death we have experienced joy and sorrow, laughter and tears, have seen so much light, so many flowers, birds and many more wonderful things to our heart's content - according to me loving the Earth is the easiest work. For this one needs only a little care and the thought that the Earth is our closest and dearest one. Then only you will be able to do all the other tasks so easily, and you will prosper in all your endeavours. You will be successful in loving Mother Earth. Haven't I said the right thing, sir?"
Mohidhar became happy like a child and said, "You are absolutely right Swapan. Let's have a little tea to celebrate, what do you say? Everything is there in the corner. Well, do you know how to make tea?"
"Yes sir, I know". Hurriedly going towards the corner of the room, Swapan abruptly halted and said, "but sir, will you take tea made by me?'
Mohidhar gave an astounding look at Swapan and said, "What! Up to this grown-up age, I have taken tea only made by hands. Do you make tea in a machine?" At his words, Swapan started to laugh and arranging all the equipment's started to prepare tea. Mohidhar continued "Well Swapan, have you ever thought about it that you, me, those of us who are born healthy and normal in the Earth can feel with all our senses the beauty, essence and aroma of the Earth. What a great amount of blessings our Creator has showered on us! On the Earth, some persons are blind, some are deaf, and some even cannot walk on their own. Imagine once how painful their lives are!
Yet the most surprising and agonizing fact is that we, who enjoy the splendour, charm and elegance of Mother Earth thoroughly, maltreat the Earth, destroy her treasures and moreover we, along with us are sending millions of other creatures of the Earth towards devastation everyday every moment. A few days back some people cruelly killed a pregnant elephant in Kerala, India." After finishing, Mohidhar took a sip of tea and then said, "Swapan, all of us know that death is the ultimate destiny of the living world. We, human beings are no exception. But when we leave the Earth, most of us carry something with us. Can you tell me what?" A surprised Swapan told him, “Why sir! We have to leave everything here. Even the clothes we wear -” Mohidhar interrupted him and said, "we know that, but one particular thing remains with most human beings till their last breath, and that is despair".
"Why 'despair' sir?"
"Despair remains because we have stayed in the Earth for such a long time, but have not perceived the glory of the Earth or loved her. We have only taken away everything from her. This regret hurts every man terribly." So far Swapan was listening to Mohidhar in a dazed manner. Now he said, "I have never thought in this way, sir, and no one has even told me anything like this." Mohidhar laughed a little and said, "Well Swapan, don't you believe in God?"
"Yes sir, I do, but not in the same way as everyone believes. Somehow I feel that He, whomsoever I believe to be my God is very close and dear to me. When I see a beautiful flower, I feel that He is smiling. Whenever I see a small child playing with mud and soil, I think that He is here with us, in all our activities. Again in the evening when I hear a lot of birds chirping on the branches of trees it seems that God is telling us - stay well all of you, be happy and cheerful."
Being very delighted Mohidhar said, "That's it, you have realised the genuine wealth of life Swapan. This is called pure love and this pure love is a divine feeling which we can acquire on the Earth, with our love for the Earth only. A Bengali poet has said - we make the God our beloved and make our beloved the God. In whatever name may God be called, he does not stay inside any Monastery, Temple, Church, Gurudwara or Mosque, etc. God may be given any name, but He has spread himself in the open sky, in the air, in the unbounded universe, in nature all around us. If we can love the all-pervasive nature from our heart, then only God will become near and dear to us, our friend.
During our childhood, our intellect does not attain maturity, and then we demand from our parents whatever comes to our mind. We do not think if our parents will be able to give us what we have wanted. Actually, we never think our parents to be separate from us. We take them to be our most dear and closely related ones, our Alter Ego. So whatever we feel, we want that frankly without hesitation.
In the same way, if we can tell our creator that you have such infinite kindness towards us as you have created this exceptionally beautiful Earth and sent us here; you have given us the greatest gifts like intelligence and the power to distinguish between good and bad as a result of which we have become the greatest creatures on Earth. As you have given us so much, so our demands to you are also unlimited. And there is a little sentimental question to you too - when you have bestowed so many things on us, then why have you given us such a little chance to see everything with utter satisfaction of the eyes and to enjoy everything to the heart's content? Why haven't you made us immortal? This demand, this prayer of ours may seem very strange and funny but actually, He is our dearest, our soul mate, so through this yearning, a deep friendship will be built up with him.
There is another aspect that we do not remember always. We, the human beings who, in the name of so-called religions have divided ourselves into thousands of small groups, are going on fighting with each other, each proclaiming his/her own religion as the greatest.
The Creator of the world has not separated us according to religions. This division does not have any value to him. Decades after decades, in various countries when two communities in the name of religion start a deadly fight, then thousands of people are driven away from their own country and have to take shelter in some other country to save their lives. Then their religion, which is the cause of so many egos and so much fighting - that religion cannot save them and give shelter to them. The countries which give them shelter are also part of the Earth. This 'Mother Earth' or 'Dharitri' is our real motherland which is not restricted within a small geographical boundary. This is our universal motherland. So all our devotion should be aimed towards Mother Earth and our holy love should be offered to the Earth only. Loving Mother Earth should be our holiest religion. You know something else Swapan - these physically disabled persons, some of whom are blind or deaf, some others cannot walk on their own; just think for once how terribly painful their lives are!
Those who have never got the chance to enjoy the complete beauty of the Earth, they will surely get the chance to come to the Earth once again - this is my realisation."
Swapan said in an emotional tone, "I shall remember it, Sir."
Looking at Swapan for once Mohidhar threw his glance far away through the window.
