Every morning as a rule Bengali newspaper comes to Mohidhar's house, but he is not at all able to read the newspaper regularly. The first reason is that even if the newspaper is delivered at seven in the morning, he gets it at about 10 a.m. and secondly, this is the real reason - for the last four or five years he does not feel any interest in newspapers in the morning. Opening the newspaper in front of his eyes he cannot see any news other than cheating, murder, rape and arguments by the political leaders.
Today unexpectedly he opened the newspaper and immediately a frown of disgust appeared on his forehead. There was a piece of major news published in the newspaper - yesterday due to a man's death in a bus accident a group of people smashed five/six Government buses, a police jeep, a few bikes kept in a local parking place and some shops and also burnt those with fire.
Reading up to this Mohidhar shoved the paper aside in disgust. Bitterness filled his mind. Death is always unfortunate. There are no ways, nothing to compensate for the death. Life leaves the Earth, and the family which loses a member suffers from a permanent loss and void. He feels it earnestly and any death makes him grieve. But at the same time, he feels strongly that this burning of Government buses and properties in the name of protest and agitation is useless. Can these show the way of a real solution?
First of all the Government properties which are burnt belong to us. Those are bought with the money given by us as tax. And the roads are built and the fuel used for the vehicles are also bought with our money. In fact, all the money belongs to the common people. We regret so much if we break or lose even an insignificant thing in our house. Why don't we regret similar occasions as referred earlier? And this tendency is extremely dangerous because the burning of buses and other vehicles produce a hazardous gas that mixes with the air and makes it heavy and polluted. It terribly pollutes the environment of the Earth. While protesting against one death, their thoughtless act becomes the cause of many deaths and destructions. Exemplary severe punishment should be given to them. At the same time, there is a necessity on behalf of the Government and non-Government sectors to take up an earnest endeavour to explain to these persons how unknowingly they are causing tremendous harm to society as well as the environment. Only then the self-destructive activities can be stopped. Being extremely disgusted by the innumerable self-destructive activities of mankind, respected scientist Stephen Hawking said that these utmost irresponsible and ruinous activities are gradually making the Earth incapable of carrying the burden of the living world. The Earth will revolt soon and the existence of the living world will be in jeopardy.
Another matter that increased his aversion towards Newspapers and that is an advertisement. Full page huge advertisements come out in the Newspapers and obviously, a lot of expenditures are involved to create and publish the advertisements. Some such advertisements make Mohidhar thoughtful and perturbed. In today's extremely hedonistic socio-economic condition these advertisements are created only to earn millions and billions of rupees. So to maintain the health and beauty of human beings a lot of tempting and attractive publishing ingredients are used to adorn the advertisements. Unknowingly everyday millions and billions of human beings are caught in these delightful and colourful traps.
From soft drinks to all types of cosmetics, everything is present there. It seems that if one cannot get that special thing, his life will be wasted. But it is not possible to maintain and improve health and beauty in such artificial ways. The only solution is to cherish the beauty of the Earth, to create a place for it inside the heart. If the eyes and the mind once start to enjoy the intoxication of admiring the beauty of the Earth, then all the other addictions like drinking, smoking or any other costly addiction will have to accept their disgraceful failure. The reason is that all the other addictions cause severe harm not only to the addicted person but also to the people around them, his family, relatives, friends and even to the other persons of the society. That person loses his charm; his time span of enjoying the magnificent beauty and boundless love of Mother Earth decreases rapidly. So to help one's own self, family and have a long life - the only way is to appreciate the beauty of Mother Earth. When man will be able to perceive the beauty of the Earth, then he himself will find out the easiest and best way to keep himself 'hale, hearty and charming'.
Throughout the world whatever natural wealth Mother Earth is producing for the whole year - be it water, pure air or soil for agriculture, are going to perish. The reasons are not giving more importance to the production of natural wealth, destruction of large forests, the influence of global warming with El-Nino.
The equilibrium of nature is being terribly damaged. A great danger is going to happen soon. The one and the only solution is to preserve the treasures of the Earth with great care, and first of all, make a schedule of producing natural wealth. We must make sure that the Earth remains pollution-free and pure. What we need is love for Mother Earth and perceiving her pain. Then only taking the correct steps to save the Earth will be possible.
