From the Desk of Publisher:-
The Earth has two general rules– Equality and coexistence. Aristotle the legendary Greek philosopher said, "Man is by nature a social animal". Society is something that precedes the individual. Man cannot live alone. No man can break the shackles of mutual dependence.
A revaluation of the demands of modern life is imperative. The flip side of the development is the mindless destruction of nature. If the obsession with "development" means desecration of nature at any cost, we cannot stop the imminent danger of environmental degradation. Our "greed'' ought not to surpass our needs. But most development projects are basically transgressions. In order to make our life even smoother, we have become more and more distanced from nature. Over the last 100 years, the rise in processed food has gripped most parts of the world in a choke-hold of manufactured nourishment that has led to convenient but unhealthy eating choices. We must find a way of sustainable living.
We live in a world where the indicator of success is how much wealth we have and how much we consume. Wealth is not equal to happiness and fulfilment. Unsustainable consumption is the fundamental cause of pollution and ecological destruction, including the climate crisis, facing the world today. The climate crisis is the most consequential impact of greed. It is happening in front of our eyes. To meet our short-term greed, we are jeopardizing our long-term future.
We will have to learn to live happily with less. This is not going to be easy. Our social mores and economic system are geared to ever-increasing consumption. Only fundamental changes can reverse this trend. Our education system must be redesigned to bring up the next generation that will tread lightly on the Earth, imparting new social values in which success is defined not as wealth and consumption, but in terms of how much we contribute to bettering our community, country and the environment.
Michael Tarun has devoted himself in building "The Statue of Mother Earth". This unique monument will be regarded as the first and last wonder of the world and will convey the message of love and protection for our Mother Earth. Monuments cultivate pride of our past and heritage but no monument has been ever built in the name of love for our Mother Earth. This is an unprecedented opportunity for every sensible human being to make alterations in how we function as a society or as a government or as a business. It is not the responsibility of governments or individuals alone- every one of us has to contribute to the betterment of Mother Earth. We should make a holistic contribution as individuals and communities towards this noble venture.
In this book, Michael Tarun conveys his idea of love for the Earth by introducing us to a character called Mohidhar Sen. His ideas may seem absurd from a realistic point of view but if we analyse the character, one can discover his amorous love and affection for nature and Mother Earth.
I am thankful to Michael Tarun for conveying his unique ideas among the common people. As a publisher of this book, I am feeling proud to contribute to his virtuous work in whichever way I can. My thanks are also due to the illustrator, cover artist, compositor and everyone who was involved with the binding of this book.
I am deeply indebted to fellow writer, Debashis Bandyopadhyay for his unstinted cooperation in bringing out this book.
